Before we left Mt Gambier we took a look at the Blue Lake. We have been here before (albeit 20 years ago) but at that time the lake wasn’t in a blue stage, but this time round it most certainly was!

Just take a look at this!

The sky was still gloomily overcast and rain was always just a minute away, but even that sort of sky didn’t deaden the impact much – wow!

We trundled on from there and headed off to Warrnambool hoping to catch up with a fellow Cats fan, my mate Darky. Sadly, he had been working some awful shifts at work (he’s an ambo medic)  and wasn’t able to catch up, but we’ll get another chance sometime soon.

We found that Warrnambool was a bit too big for comfort (yeah, I know) so we headed on to Port Campbell where the rain that had been hassling us all day cleared and left us with some magical views and a bitingly cold wind.

The above is a view of the port itself, taken from the comfort of a very nice bar!

As I said, a very nice bar!

Before we hit Port Campbell though, we happened upon the Bay of Islands. I am sure this place wasn’t on the map (except in NZ) when we lived in Geelong nearly 20 years ago, but it is now and it is spectacular. What the photos don’t show is the wind that was roaring around – more than enough to blow the proverbial brown dog off a chain!

Things have changed since we were here last though. There is now a visitors centre (complete with cafe and mementos for sale) and the whole path to the lookouts is now paved and fenced. You can no longer walk out onto the point either. WH&S and the nanny state at work again I suppose.

  1. Blue Lake is indeed very blue! Mum looks like she's settling into life on the road very easily! You look so cold, all rugged up though!!!! Hahahahahahaha. Weather has been pretty pleasant in Darwin. Lovely breezes taking away the humidity. Pretty perfect actually!!! Hehehe. <3 Miss you guys xxxxxxxx

  2. I had to reread the comment about meeting Darky at Warrnambool.
Darky has a (second ?) cousin who works shift at Portland
